Studio Notes for Type Prep

Short checklist before you sit down to review Arabic letters, whether alone or with a mentor.

Before the session

Gather three references you trust: one historic print, one contemporary, and one that shows the voice you want even if it is imperfect. Name what you like in each, not only what you dislike in your own draft.

Steps

1. Export a clean PDF at final trim size with margins visible. 2. List the letters that still feel weak and say whether the issue is weight, join, or counter shape. 3. Measure one line of text at the size you expect on paper, then check the same size on screen so scaling surprises do not hide inside the critique. 4. Write two sentences on spacing goals for headline versus body. 5. If you share a bilingual layout, mark which language leads the rhythm so feedback stays on one track at a time.

Where this connects

Longer process writing lives in The Journal. Selected client and personal pieces sit under Work. For book or poster production expectations, read Print commissioning. Return to the portfolio home anytime.
